The Rehabilitation International Asia-Pacific Regional Secretariat participated in the “Asia-Pacific Regional Forum on Digital Transformation and Future Work for Persons with Disabilities” and the “First Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities 2023-2032 Working Group” held in Bangkok.

The Fuhong Society of Macau has long been actively integrating into the international rehabilitation service development framework and deepening its insights into global trends. President Xi Jinping of China once sent a congratulatory letter to the centennial celebration of Rehabilitation International, praising it as an international organization of significant influence in the field of disability affairs. He acknowledged its long-standing efforts in safeguarding the dignity of persons with disabilities, protecting their rights, and improving their well-being. He also emphasized China’s special care and attention to persons with disabilities.

To continue exploring the development of rehabilitation services in the Asia-Pacific region, our organization, as a member of Rehabilitation International and the Asia-Pacific Regional Secretariat, participated in the events from June 2 to 4 at the United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok, Thailand. The delegation included Dr. Joseph Kwan, Vice President of Rehabilitation International Asia-Pacific Region, Ms. Jennfier Chau Wai I, Director of the Fuhong Society of Macau, Ms. Jojo Cheok Man I, Executive Manager, Ms. Jacinta Chau Wai Peng, Project Manager, Ms. Ruby Chui Ngou Cheng, Assistant Manager, and Ms. Jessica Wong Hio Tong, Counselor.

These meetings provided a valuable platform and opportunity for rehabilitation workers, experts, and organizations from various countries and regions in the Asia-Pacific to exchange ideas. The Asia-Pacific Regional Secretariat of Rehabilitation International gained numerous valuable insights from the discussions, recognizing their importance in enhancing rehabilitation service standards and promoting the development of disability affairs. In the future, these advanced experiences and practices will be brought back to Macau as references for subsequent service development. They will also be shared with relevant government departments to jointly promote the further development of Macau’s rehabilitation services.

Looking ahead, our organization will actively fulfill its mission and responsibilities as a member of Rehabilitation International and the Asia-Pacific Regional Secretariat. We will closely align with the core goals of disability development in the Asia-Pacific region, deeply integrate resources from all parties, and build an efficient and practical platform for exchange and cooperation. This will facilitate the sharing and dissemination of concepts, technologies, and practical experiences in rehabilitation services within the region, thereby improving the quality of life and social participation of persons with disabilities in the Asia-Pacific. At the same time, we will continue to uphold the concept of “integration of persons with and without disabilities,” striving to enhance the happiness, sense of achievement, and recognition of persons with disabilities. We will also actively promote the development of rehabilitation services and barrier-free environments in Macau.

The Rehabilitation International Asia-Pacific Regional Secretariat looks forward to establishing closer cooperative relationships with governments and disability organizations across the Asia-Pacific region. Together, we aim to explore new models and methods for rehabilitation services, creating a fairer, more inclusive, and better social environment for persons with disabilities. We aspire for every person with a disability to feel warmth and respect within the broader social family and to build their dreams of happiness together.
